Bolgheri wine tasting and beach of Follonica - Day 26

(English version below)

Sara and Kenneth were lucky enough to go on a little morning trip alone while the rest of us enjoyed some downtime at the campsite. We had arranged to visit "Castello di Bolgheri," which, despite the name, is not a castle but one of the oldest families in the Bolgheri region known for producing wine. We had an interesting and engaging tour about the area (dating back to the 1700s) and the family's history, which could be traced back to the year 958! However, trying strong red wine before noon might not be everyone's preference :)

When we returned, it was a quick change into swimsuits, and we headed to yet another new beach with the goal of finding a family-friendly spot with the option to rent beach chairs. We drove towards Follonica and asked at several places if there were any available chairs. Finally, we found a place, but the cost was 50 Euros for two beach chairs and an umbrella! Since we were a family of six, we thought it was a bit too expensive for just a few hours at the beach. So we walked a bit further down the beach to the public section, which turned out to be equally lovely and enjoyable. We spent a couple of great hours by the water, with the kids practicing snorkeling for the first time on the trip (in preparation for our upcoming visit to Croatia). The children did surprisingly well, and they found various seashells, stones, and even a starfish.

We also decided to try out our paddleboard for the first time in Tuscany, but there were some rocks and seaweed further out, so it wasn't ideal. Nevertheless, we had fun in the calm waters. On our way back from the beach, we grabbed a quick pizza and had plans to get the kids to bed a bit earlier. However, our plans were foiled by an evening pool party happening at the campsite (right in front of our spot), with loud music playing until 11 PM. The party-goers seemed to be having a great time, but the noise was a bit much for us, the tired family, and we were ready for a good night's sleep.
