Green water…- Day 80

(English version below)

Her fik vi is ved legepladsen ligesom Kenneth kom retur.

Following the long drive yesterday, there were various wishes for the day; both boys had their eyes on a golf course nearby, and Naja just didn't want to be anywhere near the car! The weather forecast promised 30 degrees (apparently, it's worth heading north for the temperature :-), so we decided to inspect the campsite and try out the "beach." The boys went golfing, and we packed a beach bag (just a short walk out of the campsite and around the corner, there was a public beach by the Havel River) with sand, beach volleyball, table tennis, soccer goals, a playground, and more. It was really a great area to spend time with friends and family during the summer. The only downside was that it was so late in the season that the water was completely filled with green algae, so it was all slimy when you touched it. Yuck!

We took a short walk to see if it looked the same further up the river, and to some extent, it did. We agreed that we could keep our balance on the paddleboard if we sat down and used it like a canoe, so we could go out for a little exploration. We pumped up the board (it warms you up, so you actually feel like swimming when you're done) and moved out onto the river. We had looked at a map and saw that we could sail around a small island - that's what we did, and it was a nice trip and an adventure! On the "backside" of the island, there were large barges, so we practiced getting to the side... but we didn't quite manage to avoid getting a bit wet from the green water, as those barges create a few waves on the otherwise calm water.

Naja also went ashore on the island to look for more bird chicks, but we had to make do with the ones we saw from the outside, and there were quite a few: ducklings, goslings, cygnets, and a couple of herons. So, a very nice morning trip. We spent some time washing the board and ourselves after the trip, but it was also a bit of fun to splash around with a 3-meter-long board in a shower!

Georg was dropped off around noon, and Kenneth drove back to play 18 holes too. They had already played 6 holes on a small course, so Georg was happy. Here, we stayed on the beach (without swimming) and played a bit of volleyball, table tennis, and cards in the shade. They were good at coming up with their own games and running around the large area. Late in the afternoon, we felt like having some ice cream, but since it's the end of the season, the small kiosk was closed, so we had to return to the campsite. Here, we got ice cream by the playground just as Kenneth returned. Sara had been to town in the morning, so we just had to make some food when we got hungry. We tried to go to bed a bit earlier as school starts on Monday (although so far, it hasn't worked out very well!).
