Home Sweet Home - Day 83

(English version below)

The final kilometers... Approximately 10,800 km in total, and we've made it safely back home. This is the last blog post. Thank you for following our adventure!

The last day began, and we were relieved to have a peaceful night without air raid alarms or other disruptions. We finished packing, got the kids in the car with their blankets, and then we were off after figuring out how to open the gate. We had gone up the day before to pay (only in cash!) and asked for permission to leave a bit earlier than the gates opened at 8 am since we had booked a ferry from Rostock at 11:15 am.

It was a very calm drive in the wake of the many trucks on the road, but we arrived in good time and filled up the gas tank before the ferry. The crossing was nice and calm (and we were thankful we didn't have to reverse onto the ferry), although there was a bit of "action" from the German police and military! They announced that they were conducting an exercise and that you could go out and watch if you wanted. The rest of the family did and saw how to throw a rope and climb aboard a ferry from a small rubber boat while we were sailing. Strictly prohibited to take videos and photos...

We felt a bit nervous in the last kilometers, so there was a lot of impatience that hadn't been there before, and the joy of being home, especially seeing some of our toys again, was great. We were lucky that there was a little welcoming committee consisting of grandma and great-grandma, who had done some grocery shopping (and cooking) while we emptied most of the caravan. It looks like it needs a good cleaning with a sponge when everything is out :-)

Thank you for now - it has been fantastic to have the opportunity to be together as a family in this way, and we can only recommend others to do something similar if the opportunity arises :-) (you can with benefice skip some experiences though!)
