It would be an exaggeration to say that the family is in top shape, but fortunately, there's clear improvement, and there was some energy for a little activity today. Everything is moving at a very relaxed pace, which is also okay. There have been quite a few sick people on the campsite, so it's unclear whether we brought something from the ferry or if there was something going around here already. Either way, it's unfortunate for everyone.
Kenneth and the kids went for a swim at the beach in the morning, and we set off for Skadar Lake after midday. There don't seem to be any highways in Montenegro, and moving around between different places is quite slow since all traffic passes through towns, and serious traffic jams seem to be an everyday occurrence. Police are stationed at various points, directing cars and pedestrians alternately to keep things flowing better. Nonetheless, we found a bit less traffic by waiting until later in the day and enjoyed the beautiful drive into the countryside.
Boat tours primarily depart from a specific location, where too many boat operators gather in the same place, and there's no place to park the car. A bit chaotic! However, we slowly made our way through and spoke with one of the last sellers. He said he would help us find a place to park if we chose to take his boat. Without further investigation, we said 'yes' once we were parked and had been given the route and price. Exciting. A car behind us fell for the same sales trick, and together we were led down a small side road by a boy on a scooter. Here, we could park the car by the roadside and return to the hubbub. We had driven a long way, and the girls needed to use the public toilet before we hopped on the boat. Cash payment and the 'boy' turned out to be our captain!
Despite a moment of hesitation, we had a fantastic trip with 'André', who could share a little in English about what we were seeing along the way and was friendly to the kids. Naja made a necklace from a water lily, and they both got to help steer the little boat. Wonderful. The lake is shared between Montenegro and Albania, but our trip stayed on the Montenegrin side, where we could also look towards the Albanian mountains. All in all, incredibly beautiful, and even the kids were quite calm, even though the trip took several hours.
Along the way, we stopped at a small beach/restaurant, and the other family wanted a proper meal (the trip was supposed to take two hours but ended up being over 2.5 hours). We also supported the restaurant by purchasing some from our beach chairs while the kids enjoyed swimming in their underwear and tried to catch some of the many fish with their hands!
After the lovely boat trip, we took a short walk and looked around, deciding to stay and have dinner at one of the restaurants before heading back. We went for a local family-style grill platter, which perhaps wasn't the best choice on the back of rumbling stomachs! But it was good to try something different, and Georg had completed one of his holiday goals of 4 weeks straight with pizza or pasta every night.
