There was some rain in the morning, but nowhere near the amounts forecasted. We managed to catch up on schoolwork and such during the morning and then decided to head to Pula for lunch and to see if we could dodge the rain along the way. After the scorching hot days last week, we weren't the only ones with this idea, so there was so much traffic towards Pula that we stopped and had lunch on the way, hoping that the traffic would ease up later. Both things worked out well - the only remaining issue was finding a parking spot! By some stroke of luck, we found one further out as we were leaving the city, along the coast.
Being on sightseeing trips in a city can be quite demanding (especially following Mom) as seen in the picture of Naja practically dozing off on a cannon at the old fortress, Pula Castle. And to top it off, Mom led us down a dead-end street and then had us walking in circles so we could also pass by the Arch of the Sergii/Slavoluk Sergijevaca and finally their amphitheater, a Coliseum-like structure from Roman times. On the positive side, the intermittent rain showers cleared the streets, and when the sun peeked out again, it created a spectacular sight with single and double rainbows over the city's landmarks. There was a somewhat industrial harbor on the outer edge, which might not be too pleasant for a longer stay, but overall, it's a charming little city well worth a visit :-)
It was getting quite late when we got back to the campground, and we had postponed trying out the mini-golf course for days. We settled for a quick pizza and then Kenneth, Naja, and Georg headed to the mini-golf course despite the heavy rain clouds on the horizon. They played the 18 holes on a nice little course and were almost back when the rain hit! They came home looking like drowned rats, had to shed all their clothes, and instead of going to bed, we played cards and listened to the sound of thunder.
